QUIRINO BANANA FARMERS, TO BENEFIT FROM BTC-PROCESSING PLANT

Over 7,000 banana farmers of Quirino Province will now benefit from the newly launched Banana Tissue-Culture Processing Plant through the partnership of Department of Science and Technology-Region 02 (DOST-RO2) and Quirino State University (QSU) forged on November 6, 2020.

Through this project, farmers of the producers of Bananas in the region, can guarantee the quality of their products as the processing plant aims to spare Banana seedlings from the infestation of Banana Bunch Top Virus (BBTV).

The P500,000.00 worth of Grant-In-Aid assistance will cover the construction of support facilities such as Double Purpose Working Area/Training Area, water system and procurement of supplies and materials needed in the operation of TCB grow-out nursery and production process.

Driven to bring S&T solutions, DOST-RO2 Regional Director Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang said that this project will make production of banana a self-sufficient, thus, will raise the potential of banana industry in Quirino province.

On the other hand, delighted with another S&T project, DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña looks forward for a better production and higher quality of bananas in the province.

Furthermore, QSU President Dr. Hermenegildo F. Samoy, Jr. assured that this new project will not only steer stronger partnership, rather, will contribute to raising the bar of banana productions in the province.

Meanwhile, Qurino Province Governor Hon. Dakila Carlo E. Cua also expressed his gratitude in DOST for investing in the said project.
